INTERVIEW
WITH HORACE CRAFT
BY STAFF CORRESPONDENT BRIAN SMITH
(10.4.04)
Local Horace “The Real Deal” Craft will be letting it all
hang out at the Gladiators Professional 8-Man Tournament in Milwaukee
(WI) on Saturday, November 13, 2004. A Cudahy (WI) police officer, Craft
likes to serve and protect, but he also likes to fight.
“The
Real Deal” started fighting back when he was in college to pay
his phone bill. He entered a "Tuff Man" Contest in Milwaukee
and won it all - and that was just the beginning. Some of his accomplishments
include six appearances on Heavyweight Gladiators shows in 2002 and
2003, and earning the BKA Super Heavyweight Championship.
Brian Smith: What is your fighting style?
Horace “The Real Deal” Craft:"
I started with boxing then I went in to American style kickboxing."
B. Smith: What will be your strategy for the Heavyweight Gladiators
“King of the Gladiators" Professional 8-Man Heavyweight Kickboxing
Tournament? What do you consider your biggest weapon?
The Real Deal:" I’d like to go in there
and take people out right away. I’m going to let it all hang out.
I have lots of weapons to use. It will depend on how my opponents move."
B. Smith: What do you know about your first round opponent, Brian
Wright?
The Real Deal: "Not that much. I know he has a Karate background.
I don’t like to worry about what they might do. With my police
work, for example, sometimes the people in the field who are on drugs
don’t respond to pressure points. I’ve gotta do something
to stop them from resisting. It’s a fine line to walk, but I try
and make responsible decisions. I’m going to go in there and try
to stop them."
B. Smith: How do you feel about K-1, Heavyweight Gladiators and other
8-man events?
The Real Deal: "I think there some of the
best fighting events in the world. With Boxing, for example, it’s
set up for one major fight. In K-1, there are lots of major fights.
I think these types of tournaments are the true fighting sports."
B. Smith: What was your biggest fight?
The Real Deal: "It was in 1994 against Brazilian
Super Heavyweight Sergio Vartellio. I lost to him on a 12-round decision,
but I gained good experience as a fighter."
