INTERVIEW WITH JOHN CASTLE
BY STAFF CORRESPONDENT BRIAN SMITH

(11.6.04) Number one ranked IKF Heavyweight and the 2003 and 2004 IKF National Amateur Heavyweight Champion, “Big John” Castle makes his debut to the Heavyweight Gladiators arena in the "King of the Gladiators" 8-man tourney, November 13th in Milwaukee. What he lacks in size he gains in quickness.

He may have proved that when he defeated the larger Chuck Baxter by a tough fought split decision for the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National MTR Heavyweight Title Bout in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brian Smith: What will be your strategy for the “King of the Gladiators" Tournament? What do you consider your biggest weapon?

"Big John" Castle: "Most of them guys are around 240. I’m coming in around 210. I will stick and move. My biggest weapon, I would say, is my ability to counter, my patience in waiting for them to make a mistake. Make them miss, make them pay."

B. Smith: What is your fighting style?

"Big John": "Mauythai."

B. Smith: What do you know about your first round opponent, Scott Lighty?

"Big John": "I know his name and that’s about it. You can plan on a certain type fight, but they might have changed there style."

B. Smith: How do you feel about K-1, Heavyweight Gladiators and other 8-man events?

"Big John": "This is my 1st time in any 8-man tournament. It’s a good way to get to the K-1."
